I wanted to share with all the instructors, studio owners, and anyone interested about this training I did this weekend. I went into it with kind of a closed mind because I let me sisters kids live with for about 12 yrs and I wanted nothing to do with kids after that. Anyway, this particular training had many influential people there, a lot Bikram yoga instructors, Raj Choudhury attedned, lots of great speakers, and people who educated us about kids who are hurt/traumatized and being incarcerated. Uprising Yoga really teaches you, the attendies about issues and circumstances an instructor may run into while teaching yoga to the kids in Juvenile Hall detention centers. It wasn’t about yoga postures, but more about how to teach the kids that yoga postures give you personal power. If you are interested in getting more information check them out on Face Book, “Uprising Yoga”. Note: You do not need to be a yoga instructor to do this training, only someone who wants to get involved.

Thank you for such an amazing opportunity. What you are doing is mind blowing and so inspiring. I felt so fired up after the training and never felt so passionate in Yoga and helping communities with Yoga. It is such a great feeling to be part of it. I found myself have been practicing Yoga more and knowing I can use this skill to help youth and community has been just a great gift!!! I am so grateful!

“Yoga Class is pretty cool, it helps me concentrate. Helps me learn good breathing techniques. Whenever I fell sad, mad or bored I could do some yoga and it will help me concentrate and find myself. And it’s pretty cool to see that there are more ways to breathe than just standing up on your two feet on a daily basis inhaling and exhaling through your nose and mouth. It comes in handy.

This yoga program really helps me with my temper. Every time I get angry I think of the things yoga instructors showed me and I use it to calm myself down.

Yoga helps me from top to bottom because I breathe better and I am not overly stressed anymore.

Yoga has benefited me. It’s a good way for me to learn how to relax and it helps me sleep at night.

“UpRising Yoga had been on my radar for some time. I hold a deep respect for the work they do and they fit right in with the LoveMore Movement. It takes courage, resilience, and dedication to work with the prison population and I admire Jill Ippolito for creating such an organization that’s willing to lean into the shadow side of our society and viewing those imprisoned as human beings rather than numbers in a system. The training was deeply moving. Jill and her team provided a rich array of speakers; some from the outside whose work is dedicated to providing resources to those whom are underserved, and individuals who work on the inside of the juvenile detention system. This training is illuminating, heart opening, joyful and heartbreaking. This training is invaluable, and the tools I added to my toolkit are applicable in any work with youth, underserved or otherwise.  I felt like I had found a community profoundly committed to service work. I felt at home.” Sarit Z. Rogers, Founder, LoveMore Movement, Yoga Teacher, Photographer
